Willow Beach is a long-time classic fishing destination. It’s a part of Lake Mohave on the Colorado River. The black rock canyons are just below Hoover dam and are part of Lake Mead National Park. Its Cold waters are on the north of Lake Mohave.
I’m going to share stuff here that you won’t find anywhere else.
Back in the day, they used to catch huge rainbow trout out of that little beach. I remember when I was a kid they had a café in by where the store is. Other Species we caught were Carp, Catfish, and Bass.
Inside the café, we used to go there to eat breakfast in the mornings before we went fishing or we would go fishing early and come to the café after a couple of hours of fishing. Inside the café.
The walls were lined with hundreds of pictures of anglers with their catch. These were all rainbow trout at the time and you had to have a trout over 5 pounds to get on the wall.
There were also taxidermy trout on the walls along with other wildlife that you can find in the area. If I remember right there was a bighorn ram mount at the front entrance.
Later on, as I grew up in the 80s and 90s the decor changed a little bit. The trout pictures were still on the wall but the trophy at the front of the store was in a case and it changed to a striped bass.
Around this time striped bass got out of Lake Mead into the river system. They had a heyday eating up trout.
Because of that, they grew to enormous sizes. I can’t remember exactly but I seem to recall a striped bass in the display case that was over 60 pounds if I remember right.
This place is the iconic big fish travel destination. There have been people coming here for decades to catch big fish whether they be trout or striped bass.

There is no swimming allowed at the marina but if you go outside the buoys you can swim. You should be warned that the water is ice cold year around though.
Do I need an Arizona fishing license to fish at Willow Beach?
There is a lot of confusion unless you already know about whether you need a license to fish at Willow Beach or not.
First of all yes you do need a license to fish at Willow Beach. However, if you have a Nevada license that will work as well.
It doesn’t matter if you are on a boat or on the shore as long as you have a Nevada or an Arizona license you are good to go.
Do I need a stamp for Arizona or Nevada at Willow Beach?
The answer is no. Some time ago they did away with the stamps. Now when you buy the license it is included with the license if you get it in Nevada or Arizona does not matter.
Do I need a trout stamp at Willow Beach?
Again the answer is no. Back in the day you used to have to buy a trout stamp but nowadays that is included with the license as well no matter which state you come from Arizona or Nevada.

Do I need a stamp for a second pole at Willow Beach?
Once again the answer to that is no. It is included with the license and you can have up to two poles but a maximum number of three hooks between the two poles.

Can I catch striped bass at Willow Beach?
The answer is absolutely yes you can.
What are the recommendations for catching striped bass?
Well you can do it similar to the way you do it in Lake Mead- bait fishing with anchovies that are frozen.
Cut them in thirds and put them on a standard worm hook. Use about 1 ounce of weight and toss them out there about as far as you can get them.
If you are on a boat you can do the same thing or you can go upstream a ways and float down slowly with an anchovy on the hook slightly above the bottom.
Another recommended way to catch striped bass is using baits that mimic baitfish. Either a lure that mimics a shad or one that mimics a trout or even bluegill.
These are terrific to use because the bass and the striped bass love to eat these smaller fish, especially trout.
In case you did not know trout are stocked at Willow Beach every Friday. When this happens it’s like buffet time for the striped bass. This would be a good time to throw out a swim bait that looks like a trout.

Can I catch trout at Willow Beach?
Again the answer to this is an astounding yes.
How do you catch trout at Willow Beach? I would suggest the old standby Berkeley power bait and fish somewhere around the picnic area by the store or the fishing pier over by the hatchery.
Probably the best place to catch trout. Anywhere in between that is able to be official legally is good as well. If you have a boat or kayak you can go up or downstream and fish The coves. The trout like to hang out in there as well and you can catch some real big trout at Willow Beach.
Both of my sons have caught 5-pound trout there. In case you were wondering yes this was recently it was 2020.

I know the best do you eat the trout but the hatchery also put out some very large ones for the anglers to catch. You can also use lures like spinners for trout and even jerk baits that are semi-small.
Another popular soft bait or mouse tails made by Berkley. Also, regular old nightcrawlers are a great option. You can get them from my friend mike wigglerarmy.com
Marshmallows are a good bait for trout as well. Some people use the garlic-flavored ones made specifically for fishing but the little colorful marshmallows that you put in your hot cocoa do a nice job too. (the garlic flavored ones give me bad breath)
Lastly, a super very good option is wax worms or mealworms that you can get at the store at Willow Beach. Keep in mind Arizona time is different than Nevada time most of the year and the store closes fairly early.
The first tip I would give you is to try to fish in the off hours to beat the crowds.
A lot of people go down to Willow Beach If you try to go during a holiday weekend you are going to fight for elbow room. I would say if you go in the morning during the week that would be a terrific time.

It doesn’t matter if you are going just to kayak or if you are fishing, the middle of the week is a good time.
Late in the evening is also a good time. Only the most diehard fisherman are out there after about 10 PM so getting a spot is not so hard except maybe on the weekends. They do have a very nice fishing pier at Willow Beach and it’s quite large but in the late summer, there’s a lot of grass around the pier so it’s kind of difficult to fish.
If you are going to fish the pier in the late summer you are going to want some sort of gear that you can cast out very far. This will get you out past the grass and give you a better chance of getting a striper.
Mouse tails and wax worms seem to do the best on trout if you can see them. Plop one of these baits in front of them and you can usually get their attention with it especially the wax worms and regular worms.
The best piece of advice I can give you if you want to catch trout is to go there on Friday morning. Prepare for heavy traffic along the shore because a lot of people know that the department of wildlife stocks Willow Beach at the ramp on Friday mornings at about eight.
Watch out for the no fishing signs. You need to stay in the designated fishing areas which are a little ways away from the docs. If you are fishing for striped bass this is a good time too. Because the stripers come in to eat the trout. Putting something out there that looks like a trout is a good bet during this time.

All I can tell you is that they stock Willow Beach at about 8:00 AM every Friday morning. There are occasions when that schedule is changed for example during Covid lockdowns they did not stock for quite a long time.
There may be other reasons why they don’t stock for example if it is a holiday. Other than that they are pretty regular about it.

When my friends and I got lucky enough to get dropped off at Lorenzi Park to do some fishing we had a blast together.
I don’t recall who all was there but I remember that my friend Shane and I quickly learned that the fish in the pond at that time were so small that you needed a Hook that could fit in their mouth and we do not have any that small.
As I recall I took a small treble hook and type two hooks off of it to make one single hook that was small enough to try to catch some bluegill.
It took us most of the day to figure all of this out and get our gear ready to actually catch a fish but in the end, we did not give up and we were able to catch bluegill that day.
I don’t go back there anymore, at least I have not been there for many years because in my opinion there are other places that are better for fishing.
The neighborhood is a little tough and although in the daytime it’s fine I would not want to be out there too much at night.
I prefer places like cold Creek, veterans memorial pond in Boulder city, and even Sunset Park.
But I know there are a lot of people who for one reason or another are going to Lorenzi Park and they want to know where to fish when they get there.
Where should I fish at Lorenzi Park?
I can tell you exactly where I always had the best of work and I can also tell you where would be a good place now to finish when you get there.
Around the center of the pond between the two lakes, there is a bridge. Near the bridge, you will see a blue roof picnic area. Next to that, you’ll find some steps that lead down to the water and an overlook with a rail around it that’s where you want to go. Just remember it’s near the center bridge that crosses the two lakes find the steps near the bigger lake and it’s right there. I’m going to include a picture of the place that I’m talking about and you will quickly see you once you see the picture of why I recommend this place.
This is the place where I was able to catch bluegill when I was a kid.
What bait should I use at Lorenzi Park?
We used Webber’s white bread.
Yeah, no joke we just rolled it up into a tight ball and put it on our hook. Every time we cast and we were able to get lots of bites.
The problem with using this type of meat is that as soon as he gets wet it starts to get loose and it’s not too long before it comes off your hook.
It’s really easy for the fish to steal your bait. But it’s cheap and his kids that was what made the most sense to us I guess.
Nowadays if I were to go there I would probably bring some Berkeley power bait. You can make small little balls of bait for fishing and it would be much harder to get it to come off of your hook.
How do I fish for trout at Lorenzi Park?
However, if you are going to fish at Lorenzi Park during the fall and spring before it gets too hot. I would still recommend the same exact spot for fishing however you might be fishing for a different species.
That pond is now stocked with rainbow trout. Back when I was a kid it was not but now it is and also during the hot summer months it is stocked with catfish.
If you are fishing there any time between November and March you can rest assured that there are rainbow trout in there and in that case I would go with a very small treble hook maybe a size 14 and Berkeley power bait for trout fishing.
How do I fish for catfish at Lorenzi Park in Las Vegas?
If you go there during the summer months or hotter months, I would recommend using a small warm hook and you could try using nightcrawlers or anchovies.
You will need to know where you can get nightcrawlers and anchovies so I am going to tell you here.
The best place to go for that is the Walmart sports section. They have a refrigerator and a freezer where they keep both nightcrawlers and anchovies.
However, I am going to give you my best tip of this article. If you are fishing for catfish in the warm months, go to the grocery store and buy some small shrimp. Put that on your hook and you will knock out those catfish.

Hello Darren, Just thought I’d update you on a fishing trip to Bull Lake this past weekend.
Your article at https://fishinmoney.com/best-fishing-spots-in-oklahoma-%EF%BB%BF/ caught my eye. I’d seen many posts like this that seemed to make it a worthwhile 1 hr 20 minute plus drive to try. Well, according to a retired school teacher I met there (who’s fished it for many years – says he lives next door to Vinita mayor and has complained about it), said the lake is NOT what posts online bill it to be.
He says all the big bass and crappie are long gone, fished out and the wildlife department has not done anything except kill off the grass and weed beds that fish used for cover.
The herbicides he mentioned may be questionable for the water quality – which looked bad this weekend. There was ample evidence of fresh bovine manure and footprints into the water’s edge!
Bull Lake is essentially a large cow pond! The lake is so shallow, my canoe push rod often indicated 1 – 1 1/2 feet, plus a foot of gray mud/muck underwater. I found very little decent depth and no place for bass to hide and escape shallow hot water.
I pushed the canoe through inches to a foot of water up into the area where Bull Creek used to run into the lake. Wound up tethering canoe and walking over about 25 yards of dry rocky/partially dry mud creek bed to the area just south of the railroad bridge.
There’s still water there, with an unknown depth. Between 9 am – 10 am I did catch some fish there. They seemed healthy; released 1 bass less than 14 inches, kept 5 (4 between 14-16″, 1 at 17 1/2″), And I caught the largest catfish (a blue catfish) I’ve ever caught – 8 1/2 lbs/29 inches.
I won’t return to Bull Lake, even though I had a good hour of catching fish in the creek. The quality of the water in the lake itself is horrible – I saw one dead bass, which likely died of lack of oxygen in the water.
And the destruction of weed beds for the bass, with chemical herbicides, was not a good idea. That old dry creek bed could be dredged up to allow for the better water flow of the creek into the lake.
I imagine there’s a good number of fish in the area below the train rail bridge, but it’s not easily accessible. Just thought I’d let you know someone actually read the article which gives mention of Bull Lake.
Maybe you could do a follow up on the horrible conditions of the lake now.

I actually find this one really exciting because Drew Parker. He’s on my playlist. I know who he is and when I saw him on cameo I was super excited to send him a cameo and see if he could tell us some of his fishin stories.
I figured he’s, a country artist. He’s got to know some fishing stories, so he’s got some fishing stories. First, he’s actually got two fishing stories that he’s, going to tell us, and we’re, really excited to have him as a cameo on our YouTube channel, so check it out, drew Parker fishing money.
What is up, everybody Darren asked me to share a few of my favorite fishing stories I got to so one of them was back in high school. This is kind of a crazy funny story. It’s funny now it wasn’t funny then me and throwing my high school buddies.
We were, we were actually running, noodles fishing for catfish and we had thrown quite a few noodles out. We were just kind of hanging out on the lake just giving him time. You know leaving them out there and we were fishing on the bottom side of a dam that separates Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair in the state of Georgia, and they started pulling water back into the dam.
We were on the bottom side of the dams and they started pulling water back into the dam. Well, they started pulling on both that way and we were like well now. It’d, be a good time for us to pick these noodles up before they get pulled all the way back to the dam, and then we lose them and all that good stuff.
So we go to start picking the noodles up, while the boat would not crank and it slowly started pulling our boat back to the dam. And there was this big tall. This big wire kind of over the lake before you get to the dam and I have a buddy.
He was fishing with us. He’s about 6’4 6’5 and as it’s pulling us to the dam. I’m thinking this whole time that that that that wires, not super high, that he’ll, be able to grab it off the boat and hold us there.
Well, we get to this wire and that thing is 40 50 foot up. No way he’s grabbing it. We start. I start panicking start putting the life jacket on bye, buddy starts putting his life jacket on and we’re, trying to paddle a 17-foot jumbo away from a dam that is just sucking water.
In and pulling us to it anyway. Needless to say, we didn’t get any fish, we didn’t get any noodles, but we saved our lives that night. Luckily, the boat eventually cranked up and we got away from it, but I mean it was after it had pulled us all the way to them.
We’re, holding the boat off the dam with the boat horse. Finally, a cranky it crunk up and we were able to get away anyway. That’s, a funny story, I literally, that was the night. I thought that my life was over.
Another story was actually last year, a friend of mine, who is an incredible bass fisherman I mean probably one of the best bass fishermen. I’ve ever been in the boat with his name, is uh will Hodgins and he actually plays piano for Billy Ray Cyrus.
He is an absolutely phenomenal bass fisherman, but he took me out fishing last year and we wouldn’t call some smallmouth and we caught those smallmouth we caught. Probably I don’t know we probably caught 15 pounds of smallmouth within 30 minutes of being out there fishing and I love the fish.
I haven’t been able to do much of it this year it’s, been raining a lot, not that you can’t fish in the rain, but it’s been raining a lot. I also just had a newborn, so I’ve, been kind of stuck at the house and we’ve, been in quarantine.
So just a lot of stuff going on been out on the road tour and this year. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a singer-songwriter. I have my own music. This is gonna, be a little crude, but I want to get it on video because I had a good time. I went out this afternoon after work and picked up, went to the store and picked up a few things to try to do some fish in here in Albuquerque New Mexico, and it’s.
The first time that I’ve tried to do that. Even though I’ve been working here, but maybe close to two years coming up on or a year and a half or something that I’ve been working here in Albuquerque. So this is the first time that I’ve, actually, you know went got my license and all that stuff and I wanted to go, do some fish and I had read that they stopped trout in the drainage ditches that are next to well.
Sorry about that, I was paying attention to the road that is next to the river and I had heard that they had stocked some trout in there and that the Rio Grande River, I meant to say the the the head start.
Some trout in the drainage, ditches that are just to the east is that right, yes, the east of the river anyway, the hard part was finding a dang place where the road cuz I’m in a car here, so finding a place where the road would connect to the river and I was having a real, tough time, a real, tough time I was about to give up actually and then I told myself all right.
Let me go down this road and see if I got access there and if not, I’m, going to turn around and come back up one more Road and if I can’t get into the river or to the Drainage ditches, then I’m, giving up because I had tried a few places.
Some people said: try Korres and Rio. Bravo behind the Walmart. I’ve, never fished there, but it looked kind of trashy. They put up a fence. I don’t know if that fence has always been there, but there was a fence up.
You probably could have crawled over the fence because it was knocked down, but it just looked very shallow and trashy that’s. All I got to say you know when they put up the fence. If that’s, something new.
I think that’s, maybe not a very good idea, or maybe they should put up a short fence or something so that it’s still inviting to go in there. Instead of trying to keep everybody out because the problem is all the trash gets in there, nobody gets in there and cleans it.
But I know a lot of fishermen like myself whenever they find trash laying around in a spot where they’re fishing. We’ll go pick up the trash and take it with us. So if you let people fish there, probably I don’t know we might end up better off.

I was doing it the way I do it and I wasn’t really getting any bites, but I could see other people catching them. So I was watching to see how they were doing it and you & # 39. Ve got a few pointers, a few tips, and I got a little bit closer and to what it you know was going to take to get it done.
I could tell some people were using Berkeley Power Bait and I’ve, seen not in this particular spot, but I’ve seen other people just using a worm. I didn’t have any worms, because when I went to get some they were out, so I had to try something else.
I tried a little black tube worm for trout. I tried I had some trout potion that smelly stuff to put on it. I tried that I tried. I tried a little minnow. I tried that a tri-five thought in because the water was a lot more.
There was a lot more current in the water than I thought there would be, and so I had to put a lot of weight. I tried to put a lot of weight and I did a drop shot rig where my weights were down on the bottom.
Stuck to the bottom and my lure, my worm was up about a foot off the ground foot in half and keeping it up out of the weeds and stuff more presentable. The whole drainage area right there was probably no more than 2 or 3 feet.
There were probably areas where it was deeper, but mostly about 3, maybe 4 feet at the most, and I saw a guy behind me, walk up and had a whole string of full of trout, and I thought, okay, I’m, doing this wrong, where, Where, where did he get those you know so I kind of picked up because I had been in the same spot for a while.
I picked up and went over to where he was and I was getting bites, but I think my worm was a little too long because they were grabbing the back of my worm and then and then letting it go. They weren’t getting up.
All the way up to the hook, the worm itself was only maybe three inches two and a half three inches. They’re, just little black ones, little black rubber worms, little skinny ones, not your like bass, worm but way smaller and anyway, I met a guy.
I met a guy named Paul and he was fishing on the other side of the river from me. I call it a river, I guess it’s, a river, ditch drainage, whatever he was fishing on the other side of the river for me and he I saw him catch one over there and then once I picked up and walked away pretty Soon he picked up and came over to where I was.
He was on the other side of the ditch for me and we did have a little conversation and stuff, and so now is where I got to say. I’m very grateful for Paul, because not only did he tell me what he was using because he was catching a few on the other side and I wasn’t.
Not only did he tell me how he was doing it, he when he was ready to go. He gave me what he had and I really appreciate that. No, I’m, going the wrong way anyway. So I really appreciate Paul for giving me what he had.
He was using a I don’t know if Berkley makes these but a little rubber white like a rubber ball, but I guess it’s made for trout bait. I’ve, never used them before a little bit bigger than a salmon egg.
I, though, and what it reminded me of, is the head that’s on the mouse tails I’ve used mouse tails before it looked just like the head, that’s on the mouse tails. I don’t know if they sell them separately from the tail or if it’s broken off a mouse tail, not sure.
Maybe somebody can tell me about that or I’ll. Look next time I go to the bait shop, but anyway um he had a little right, little white, rubber or little head that he put on it and then wax worms. So I learned something there too because be honest with you all these years.
I’ve been fish and I’ve, never used wax worms to fish with you use lots of different kinds of Warner’s, but not wax worms. I’ve, even used mealworms, but not wax worms. So I don’t know where he got them all, have to do some research on that, but he gave me what he had.
He had three wax worms left and he had I’m sure you have more in his truck. He said, but we were kind of far away from the vehicles and he gave me that white that little white head off of his hook, and so what did? I do? I had to re-rig my rig because i was using a drop shot rig and he was using a Carolina rig and I didn’t really have the luxury, it was getting dark already.
In fact, it was already dark and my I’m getting old my eyes, aren’t that great, so I had to retie and I had to try to do it in the dark. So I did the best I could and which was okay, not the best that I’ve done in you know that I know how to do, but the best I could do in the dark I didn’t have a flashlight.
I’m traveling. You guys I traveled for a living, so I don’t have my whole tackle box with me. I just have very minimal stuff, but now I know what I need over there thanks to Paul and he works for an airline, a well-known airline, that’s.
All I’ll say I really appreciate it Paul if you find this video, because you taught me how to do it, and so now, next time I go, I’ll know how to do it. I’ll know what to bring with me as well, that’s.

Hey: this is Ethan from fishinmoney.com make sure you go check it out. Today we’re, making a new custom bait for trout fishing. So let’s, go ahead and get into it. Today we have this little powder bait jar with a variety of different fish.
Food flakes pellets, just a bunch of stuff, and also has some turtle sticks in there as well. So we mixed that up and if you just want to see, we have the flakes. The turtle sticks the there’s, a couple of little betta pellets, and our good mix of it is the koi choice, color plus so anyway.
DIY POWERBAIT
We have that in this little power bait jar and we’re gonna blend it up because we want to make this into a powder to mix with flour and egg to make our power baits. So let’s, go ahead and dump it in there and blend it up.
Okay, now that’s in there and close this up, make sure it’s nice and tight. We’re gonna press. This button to blend it up: [, Music, ], okay, there we go now we have our powder in there and we’re, going to mix that with flour and egg to make our bait for trout.
So what I have right here is about half of an egg white. I took out the yolk and a little bit of the egg white. This is our powder right here. I’m, just gonna dump it into the egg white and we also need about the same amount of flour that we have of this powder and we have our flour right here.
So if we go ahead and dump that in and we’re just going to start mixing until it turns into a playdough okay, it seems to be just a little bit dry. So I’m gonna go ahead and add a little bit of water.
Okay, now that we have the water in there, I’m just going to keep mixing, get it into the dough, and you get it to this consistency. You could just start using your hands as you want just to knead it sort of like you’re, making pizza dough or bread, [ Applause, ], [, Music, ].
Now that I added more flour, I can tell it’s, a lot less sticky. This is about the consistency that it needs to be just a nice dough. What I did to get it this way. I used more flour than I thought it would need, but that’s.
Alright, you just sort of rip it apart. There’s a little bit of sticky inside when you’re doing it and you rip it apart and get some flour on it and rub it into the sticky part and then just sort of need it so that it has no More sticky and it’s, just sort of a dough that’s, easy to rip a piece off of and roll into a ball just like PowerBait, okay.
So here’s, our dough, I’m just gonna rip. A tiny little piece off and show you that you don’t need a lot of this bait to catch a fish because you only need about that much and it’s. Not gonna float a trout like to eat stuff that’s, not on the bottom-most of the time, so you might want to use a bobber for this bait.

Once you become an outdoorsman, you are definitely introduced to a wonderful, wide-open world. Moreover, you will definitely soon realize that there is so much that you need to learn. You literally have questions everywhere. How do catfish react in the water? How can you catch bass? How do trout react in a pond? Do trout clean out a pond for you? Of course, at some point in time, you have probably wondered about trout behavior and especially these latter questions. Here are some answers for you:
Well, will trout clean out your pond for you or not? The short answer to that question is that while trout are indeed a fascinating fish, the answer is no, these fascinating creatures will not clean out your pond for you. However, just because trout won’t clean out your pond for you doesn’t necessarily mean that A DIFFERENT species of fish won’t do it for you. Indeed, there are plenty that you can consider. Let’s take a look.
Grass Carp
One option that you could go with would be the grass carp. There are several rules of thumb regarding these bottom feeders. First of all, they should not be stocked in ponds that are trying to attract ducks, nor should they be stocked in a pond where the goal is to create a natural ecosystem. Additionally, they shouldn’t be in a pond where you want water clarity. Now on to the areas where grass carp can help a pond…they SHOULD be stocked in areas with rooted vegetation, simply because they are voracious eaters that will go after this, literally eating from 40 percent to 300 percent of their body. They will not only eat algae, but they will also regularly consume other important pieces of the landscape. Simply put, if you want to get rid of your vegetation, this is the fish you should stock.

Koi
The one thing you need to understand about Koi is that they are omnivores and they definitely have a very hearty appetite. Although they won’t literally eat everything in site, they will consume quite a few of your pond plants, simply because of the fact that they find them delicious. Additionally, they will often root around in the mud of your pond, and that will often keep it murky, so you also shouldn’t use this breed if you want a clear pond.
Goldfish
Goldfish are another example that could keep your pond clean, simply because they are voracious algae eaters. They will also do an effective job of cutting down on insects, and they will keep both of these little critters down so they don’t take over your pond. But again, if you want a pond that is clear, this isn’t necessarily the species to go for, simply because they too like to root around at the bottom of a pond, so you probably should avoid this species if you have a pond bottom that is made of clay or silt.
Mosquito Fish
There is no question that mosquito fish are definitely a unique breed. They are known as mosquito fish simply because that is one of the main staples of their diet. Considering that mosquitoes tend to breed in many different locales, including streams and ponds, introducing some mosquito fish to your body of water is a great way to keep the mosquitoes down. Of course, there are certain rules that you must follow with the mosquito fish. First of all, you should make sure that they are in a pond with fish their own size. They have a tendency to become prey themselves when the fish are larger. On the other hand, you can put them in a pond with larger fish, but you had better make sure to include plenty of ornaments and brush from them to hide under. However, if you want your pond to be free of pesky mosquitoes, this type of fish is definitely the way to go!
The Common Pleco is also known as the suckermouth catfish, the Pleco’s scientific term is the Hypostomus plecostomus. They are also an omnivorous species that feeds on algae, insects, and plant material. Considering how versatile this breed is and just how widespread their diet is, there is no question that they can be a tremendous asset to any pond owner’s endeavor. The Pleco has the potential to grow to 24 inches or more, so it really is best if you only stick to just one pleco for your pond at a time. They also have a tendency to get aggressive, even with other pleco, but it is well worth it when you account for their voracious appetite.
Catfish
Insofar as whether catfish will clean your pond, it really opens things up to a very heated debate. Catfish are a well-known scavenging species, which simply means that they will eat just about anything. They are also known as bottom feeders. They definitely have the right anatomy for their voracious appetite, simply because they have a bladder that is less buoyant than that of other fish species. They also have a flattened head, and that makes it easier for them to forage and dig through the debris at the bottom of your pond. When you couple that with the fact that they have a body covered in taste buds and a mouth that is a substrate function, then you can easily see why they can be a huge asset in helping you to keep your pond clean.
Final Thoughts
If you’re big into trout and you were hoping that they could help you keep your pond clean, then I’m sorry to say that you are probably going to be disappointed. They are not known for cleaning up ponds. However, you can take heart in the fact that there are many other species of fish that will be more than happy to do the job for you. They are all specially suited for some notable aspects of pond cleaning, including removing bugs, keeping algae down, or helping the pond continue to be free of vegetation. Whichever one of these fish that you might choose, you can definitely be certain that they will be a huge asset to you in no time flat.
